Metal Clay is a suspension of tiny particles of metal in a clay binder that can make the jewelry, pearls and small finds. The beauty of the metal is sound, that it can be manipulated in the same way as any modeling but once fired, the binder burned off leaving the metal mold intact. While there is some shrinkage (Between 10-15% for the more modern versions), can achieve very fine details, including impressions, which would require a different method of metal working are casting.
Silver metal clay (also called fine silver) in objects with almost pure silver, which is ideal for enamelling. There are two popular brands available – (Also known as PMC) Precious Metal Clay and Art Clay Silver (ACS). Precious Metal Clay was developed in the early 1990s and consists of microscopic particles in Japan of pure silver (or gold fine powder) and a water-soluble binder which burns out during firing. The original formula of PMC (now "standard") has to be in an oven at a temperature of 1650F released and has a high loss of around 30%. Two other versions were later developed as PMC +, which at 1490F and PMC3, which may at temperatures as low as 1100F fired fired. Both later versions of PMC much lower shrinkage rates, so much finer detail to be worked into designs.
Art Clay Silver (ACS) was developed in Japan and is similar in consistency PMC +. The main difference with ACS is that it can be burned with a hand torch , or gas stove. benefited due to the subtle differences in the binder components and longer burning times of ACS with a significantly lower percentage of shrinkage – only 8-10%. This means that ACS is in the details without loss of definition can be processed in the finishing touches. Art Clay Slow Dry was introduced soon after, requiring a much longer working hours allowed before burning complicated work is to be formed in the tone without loss of smoothness.
650 and Art Clay Art Clay 650 Slow Dry are now becoming increasingly popular because they not only a longer working time, but at temperatures as low as 650C/1200F be fired. This allows jewelers to glass and sterling silver in the designs to integrate without fear of damaging the components. AIDA, the producers of ACS, oil paste, milling the product only on burned or fine silver metal clay used and have adopted overlay paste, which was designed to create designs on glass and porcelain. These two products allow me the use of metal Clay Products, in a whole Number of new designs and media are included expanding the potential of this product.
Metal clays allow jewelers work with a material that is as malleable as putty normal is, but produces fine (almost pure) silver jewelry of exquisite delicacy and beauty. As soon as a polished luster and shine that is easily comparable to silver and to development of products in recent years cast shrinkage is now no longer an issue. The type depends on personal preference, as both types have their advantages, but inclusion of metal tone in your jewelry design offers a new medium to explore with beautiful results.
